NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Tachometer drive removed (page 3-42), rocker arm
assemblies and push rods removed from cylinder heads (page 3-60), fuel
injection pump removed (page 3-137), crankshaft pulley removed (page
3-51), timing gear cover removed (page 4-68), oil pan removed (page
3-89), and flywheel removed (page 3-57).
REMOVAL (SHEET 1 OF 3)
(1) Raise valve lifters (13) from
camshaft lobes as follows:
(a) Cut 12 pieces of light wire
about 18 inches long. Form a
small hook on one end of wire.
(b) Insert hook of wire into push
rod bore at top of cylinder
block and engage one hole in
valve lifter (13) with hook.
