2.
Check socket-head screw on ECM connector.
a.
Ensure connector bolt is properly tightened. Be careful not to overtighten bolt and break bolt.
b.
Do not exceed 55 lb-in. (6 Nm) of torque on ECM connector bolt when P1/J1 ECM connector is being installed on
ECM.
c.
Expected Results. ECM connector is secure and ECM connector bolt is properly tightened.
(1)
If results are OK, proceed to step 3.
(2)
If results are NOT OK, secure ECM connector. Tighten socket-head screw to proper torque. Verify fault
has been eliminated. If fault has not been eliminated, proceed to step 3.
3.
Perform pull test on each wire terminal connection.
a.
Each terminal and connector should withstand 10 lb (45 N) of pull. Each wire should remain in connector body.
This test checks whether wire was properly crimped in terminal and whether terminal was properly inserted into
connector.
b.
DT connectors use orange wedge to lock terminals in place.
c.
Check to ensure orange wedge is not missing and is installed properly on DT connectors.
N OT E
Terminals should always be crimped onto the wires by use of a crimp tool. Do not solder terminals Use the
crimp tool.
d.
Expected Results. Each terminal and connector withstands 10 lb (45 N) of pull. Each wire remains in connector
body.
(1)
If results are OK, proceed to step 4.
(2)
If results are NOT OK, repair or replace connectors. Ensure all seals are properly in place and that connec-
tors are completely connected. Verify repair eliminates the problem.
