REAR MAIN SEAL REPLACEMENT - CONTINUED

INSTALLATION

Crankshaft rear seal is lubricated. DO NOT lubricate seal or crankshaft flange before installation.
1.
Place new housing assembly (2) on crankshaft flange
(4) until housing assembly contacts cylinder block (3)
face. Plastic sleeve (5) will push out of housing assem-
bly. Discard plastic sleeve.
2.
Place alignment tool over housing assembly (2). This
will center housing assembly onto crankshaft flange
(4).
3.
Install 10 bolts (1) with alignment tool into position to
fasten housing assembly (2) to cylinder block (3).

4.
Tighten bolts (1) in positions 1 and 2 to 16 lb-ft (22 Nm).
5.
Remove alignment tool. Tighten remaining bolts (1) (in sequential order as shown) to 16 lb-ft (22 Nm).
6.
Install flywheel (WP 0150 00).
7.
Check oil level (WP 0025 00).
8.
Run engine until correct operating temperature is reached (TM 5-3805-290-10).
9.
Shut down engine (TM 5-3805-290-10).
10.
Check for leaks.
