HIGHWAY AND RAIL TRANSPORT

The 924H Wheel Loader is transportable by trailer or rail flatcar.
1. General requirements:
a. All necessary permits and licenses must be obtained.
b. Ensure that cooling system is prepared with correct coolant mixture for anticipated temperature ranges to
be encountered over planned route.
WARNING
Hearing protection is required if within 25 ft (7.6 m) of an operating machine. Hearing
protection is required when operating machine without cab during transport operations to
prevent hearing loss.
Drive machine without cab with extreme caution. Use low idle and first gear forward or
reverse only. Care should be taken as no operator protection is available with cab
removed.
Stand clear of frame articulation area when machine is operating. There is no clearance
for personnel in this area when machine turns. Crushing could occur.
Always use a ground guide when moving machine on or off transport. Failure to use a
ground guide may result in an accident.
Be alert for personnel in area while operating machine. Always check to ensure area is
clear of personnel and obstructions before moving.
Failure to follow these warnings may cause damage to equipment, injury or death to
personnel.
c.
If cab is removed from machine, operation without cab to drive on and off transporter is required.
2. Over highway by trailer:
Transport of machine by trailer over public highways requires machine to be configured to meet state and federal
height requirements. This may require cab (WP 0344) and exhaust pipe (WP 0227) to be removed.
3. Rail transport:
a. Transport of machine within the Continental United States (CONUS) is governed by Association of
American Railroads (AAR) regulations and requires no disassembly.
b. Outside Continental United States (OCONUS) rail transport is governed by Gabarit International de
Chargement (GIC) regulations. OCONUS rail transport requires that cab (WP 0344) and exhaust pipe

Rail transport requires machine to have as little fuel as possible for safety. Fuel tank more than three-

1. Remove cab, if required (WP 0344).
3. Stow cab and exhaust pipe. Tie down cab and exhaust pipe to shipping pallet IAW FM 55-30, Army Motor
Transport Unit and Operations.
4. Secure BII, as appropriate.
