AMMETER USAGE

An ammeter (Figure 19, Item 6) is used to measure current values in the electrical system of the machine. The
ammeter clamps on a single wire to obtain a current reading on a circuit.
Test Ammeter.

1. Select highest DC amperage range or a range (Figure 19, Item 2) that is higher than amps to be
measured.
2. Press and hold the Zero button (Figure 19, Item 4) until the display reads zero.
a. If ammeter displays more than 0 amps, turn ammeter off and replace ammeter battery.
b. If ammeter displays 0 amps, ammeter OK. Perform tests using ammeter as directed.
Measure Amperage.

1. Press the jaw trigger (Figure 19, Item 3) to open the jaw, and place the jaw around the wire or cable
being tested with the arrow (Figure 19, Item 1) pointing in direction of current flow as described in
troubleshooting.
2. Monitor and record reading. Ammeter displays a number representing current (Figure 19, Item 5).

Inspecting relay for bent or damaged terminals, and relay housing for cracks, burns, or damage. Replace relay if
condition found.
