TM 5-3805-258-24-2ENGINE13.FUELUse the followingDISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLYINJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNORa)b)c)procedure to put the No. 1piston at top center on the compression stroke.No. 1 piston at top center (TC) on the compres-sion stroke is the starting point for all timingprocedures.Loosen hose clamps (18), bolt (17) andremove the breather from the valve cover.Remove the plug from the flywheel hous-ing.Turn the crankshaft clockwise (as seen fromthe front of the engine) until a 3/8”-16 NCbolt (19) at least 2.5 in. long can be installedin the flywheel through the hole in the fly-wheel housing. Do not turn the crankshaftcounterclockwise.NOTE: The rocker arms for No. 1 piston can be seenthrough the breather hole in the valve cover.d) Check to see if both rocker arms for the No.1 piston can be moved backward and for-ward by hand.NOTE: The No. 1 piston is at top center on thecompression stroke when bolt (19) can be put in theflywheel through the hole in the flywheel housing, and both rocker arms for the No. 1 piston can bemoved backward and forward by hand.e) If both rocker arms can not be moved byhand, the No. 1 piston is not at top centeron the compression stroke. Remove bolt(19) from the flywheel and turn the crank-shaft clockwise one full turn (360°). In-stall the timing bolt in the flywheel again.Check to see if both rocker arms for the No.1 piston can be moved backward and for-ward by hand.14. Remove the bolts and cover (20) from the fuelpump housing.5-96
