If necessary, install twocapscrews (1) in gear assembly to use as handles for installing gearassembly. Use a soft hammer to hit transfer gear assembly to be sure itis all the way down.Put a prybar between forwardclutch carrier and reverseclutch carrier and hub to holdup forward clutch carrier.Install retaining ring (3) toattach transfer gear assembly(21 thru 23) to forward clutchcarrier.Liberally apply lubricating oilto surface of transfer gear(23).Install high range clutch hubassembly (13 thru 20), splinedend of high range clutch hub(20) down, onto hub of transfergear (23). Be sure that trans-fer gear pins (22) engage tabson clutch plate (19).Liberally apply lubricating oilto clutch plate (18).Position high range clutch pis-ton housing assembly (4 thru12) on high range clutch hubassembly (13 thru 20). Alinecapscrew (1) holes of highrange clutch piston housing(12) and transfer gear (23) andholes in piston with pins intransfer gear (23).Using soft hammer, push high range clutch piston housing (12) againsttransfer gear (23).NOTEIn following step, put a punch between teeth of transfer gear (23) andoutput gear to prevent transfer gear from turning.(8) Apply oil-soluble grease to heads of capscrews (1). Install six new locktabs (2) and capscrews (1). Tighten capscrews (1) to 83 to 100 lb-ft.4-186
