CLEANING
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean

area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and dont breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and donut smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
attention immediately.
If contact with skin or clothes is made, flush
with large amounts of water.
If contact with eyes is made, wash eyes
with water and get medical aid immediately.
Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Use
only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment
(goggles/shield, gloves, etc). Failure to do so could cause serious
injury to eyes and possible blindness.
If you hurt your eyes or if a
foreign object is blown into your eyes, seek medical attention
immediately.
(1) Clean bearings (7 and 12) by immersing in cleaning solvent P-D-680 and
slowly moving up and down. Remove bearings from cleaning solvent and
strike larger side of cone against a block of wood to dislodge solidified
particles of lubricant. Immerse again in cleaning solvent and repeat
above until bearings are clean. Dry using compressed air. Direct air
stream across bearing to avoid spinning. Dont spin bearings when drying;
rotate bearings slowly by hand to facilitate drying. After drying bear-
ings, lubricate using clean lubricating oil. Keep bearings in a clean
area.

Clean remaining parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry using com-
pressed air.
INSPECTION
NOTE
Replace an item if inspection indicates need for replacement.
(1)
Inspect bearings (7 and 12) by rotating and checking that it turns
smoothly. Check bearing balls and rollers for flat areas, pitting,
scored, scratched, chipped, or cracked races.
(2)
Inspect transfer gear (9), output shaft (8), and output flange (4) for
cracks or chipped, nicked, burred, broken, or missing teeth.
(3) Inspect output flange (4) for distortion or thread damage.
(4)
Inspect remaining parts for distortion, excessive wear, or thread damage.
