This task covers disassembly, cleaning, inspection and repair,
and reassembly of charging pump.

Machinists steel rule
Putty knife
Hydraulic press
Sleeve, 7/8 inch outside diameter
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
Non-hardening sealant (Appendix C, item 10)
Transmission gasket kit (FSCM 73342 PN 6838897)
NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Charging pump removed from transmission housing
(page 3-344).
DISASSEMBLY

Loosen cover (1) from pump
housing (9) using hammer and
putty knife. Remove cover and
gasket (2). If necessary, use
putty knife to scrape gasket
from cover or housing. Discard
gasket.
Remove drive gear (3).
Remove driven gear (4) with two
bearings (5).
Using suitable size sleeve and
hammer, drive oil seal (8) from
pump housing (9). Discard oil
seal.
NOTE
Dont remove bearings (5) from driven gear (4) unless inspection indi-
cates replacement of bearings is necessary (refer to inspection/repair
below). Dont remove shaft (6); shaft is not serviced separately. If in-
spection indicates shaft is damaged, charging pump shall be replaced as
a complete assembly.
(5) If necessary to remove dowel pin (7) , clamp dowel pin (7) in vise. Twist
pump housing (9) to remove dowel pin. Discard dowel pin.
