(e) Remove valve rotator and spring from valve stem.
NOTE
Do not remove valve seal from valve stem in following step. Valve seal
will prevent valve from falling through valve guide if piston is moved
too far. If valve stem falls through valve guide, remove cylinder head
(page 3-45) to reassemble valve parts.

Remove spring seat from cylinder head. Do not remove valve seal from
valve stem.
Install dial indicator on
end of exhaust valve stem,
with valve resting on top
of piston.
Slowly crank engine clockwise
using wrench on crankshaft
pulley capscrew until dial
indicator hand stops moving.
Then set dial indicator hand to
zero indication.
Slowly crank engine clockwise
until dial indicator hand in-
dicates 0.010 inch. Scribe a
mark on crankshaft pulley in
line with timing pointer.
Slowly crank engine counterclockwise,
past zero indication on dial indi-
cator, until dial indicator hand again indicates 0.010 inch. Scribe a
second mark on crankshaft pulley in line with timing pointer.
