Valve sealwill prevent valve from falling through valve guide if piston is movedtoo far. If valve stem falls through valve guide, remove cylinder head(page 3-45) to reassemble valve parts.(f)(g)(h)(i)(j)Remove spring seat from cylinder head. Do not remove valve seal fromvalve stem.Install dial indicator onend of exhaust valve stem,with valve resting on topof piston.Slowly crank engine clockwiseusing wrench on crankshaftpulley capscrew until dialindicator hand stops moving.Then set dial indicator hand tozero indication.Slowly crank engine clockwiseuntil dial indicator hand in-dicates 0.010 inch. Scribe amark on crankshaft pulley inline with timing pointer.Slowly crank engine counterclockwise,past zero indication on dial indi-cator, until dial indicator hand again indicates 0.010 inch. Scribe asecond mark on crankshaft pulley in line with timing pointer.3-5
