(b) Check if No. 1 cylinder push rods are loose. If push rods are loose, No.
1 cylinder is at TDC on compression stroke: go to step (c) below. If
push rods are tight, crank engine one complete revolution and aline TDC
mark on crankshaft pulley with timing pointer.
(c) Check No. 1 intake valve tappet clearance using 0.015 inch thickness
gage. If necessary, adjust clearance to exactly 0.015 inch using tappet
adjustment tool.
(d) Install dial indicator on top of No. 1 intake valve rotator as shown.
Set dial indicator hand to zero indication.
(e) Crank engine one complete revolution until TDC mark
on crankshaft pulley is alined with timing pointer.
(f) Slowly crank engine until 7 degrees ATDC (After Top
Dead Center) mark on crankshaft pulley is alined
with timing pointer.
(g) Record dial indicator reading. Dial indicator hand
should indicate 0.053 inch.
