TM 5-3805-262-34
TESTING (SHEET 2 OF 3)
(4) Close gage valve.
(5) Flush fuel injector by working test stand pump handle rapidly.
NOTE
When testing more than one fuel injector, there shall not be more than
100 psi difference in opening pressure between injectors.
(6) Check fuel injector opening pressure as follows:
(a) Open gage valve and raise pressure slowly until fuel injector valve
opens (pressure gage reading will fall sharply at this point). Record
opening pressure.
(b) If opening pressure is not 3400 to 3950 psi for used fuel injectors or
3950 to 4100 psi for new fuel injectors, notify general support mainte-
nance (fuel injector must be adjusted). If opening pressure is as speci-
fied above, go to step (7) below.
Always direct injector tip away from you. Fuel
penetrate clothing and skin causing serious
from spray orifices can
infection. Always be sure
injector tip is enclosed in a receptacle (preferably transparent) to
contain spray. If skin is broken by fuel injector spray, immediately
wash injured part with boric acid solution. Support injured member with
a splint and sling so it will remain absolutely at rest. Obtain medical
attention immediately.
(7) Check for valve seat leakage as follows:
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
Work test pump rapidly to seat valve firmly.
Dry fuel injector nozzle tip using clean cloth.
Raise fuel injector pressure until pressure is 100 psi under opening
pressure recorded in step (6)(a) above for five seconds and watch nozzle
tip.
If drops form on fuel injector nozzle tip (slight dampness is permit-
ted), notify general support maintenance (fuel injector must be repair-
ed). If drops do not form on fuel injector tip after five seconds, go to
step (8) below.
