area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and dont breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and dont smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
attention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flush
with large amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyes
with water and get medical aid immediately.
(1) Clean interior and exterior of fuel tank using clean cloth moistened with
cleaning solvent 00P-D-680. Dry thoroughly using clean cloths.
(2) Inspect fuel tank nuts and flanges for cracks and damaged or stripped
threads. Repair thread damage by chasing with proper size tap. If flange
threads cannot be cleaned up, replace fuel tank. If nut threads cannot be
cleaned up, replace nut:
(a) Install and tighten pipe plug.
(b) Fill fuel tank with water.
Never allow sparks or open flame near fuel tank unless tank is
completely filled with water. Failure to observe this precaution may
cause serious injury or death due to fuel tank explosion. If you are
injured, get medical aid immediately.
(c) Drill head from defective nut and press nut from fuel tank.
(d) Press new nut into fuel tank.
(e) Remove pipe plug and drain water.
(3)
Inspect fuel tank for cracks or evidence of leakage. Replace fuel tank if
cracked or leaking.
(4) Inspect fuel tank for rust and corrosion.
Remove rust using scratch wire
brush and abrasive cloth. Paint exposed metal on outside of fuel tank.
(5) Install fuel tank (refer to TM 5-3805-262-20).
