c.
Inspect electrical lead (31) for cracked or broken insulation or broken wire
strands at connection to terminals.
d.
Inspect springs (28) for cracks, broken
coils, and permanent set. Inspect brush
holder (26) and brushes (27) for cracks,
distortion, and frayed or broken elec-
trical leads. Measure length of each
brush between shoulder and slip ring
end. Brushes should be at least 13/32
inch long. Replace brushes (27) with
brush holder (26) as an assembly if
brushes require replacement.
e.
Inspect capscrews (4 and 24) for cracks,
damaged threads, and broken or defective
insulation. Replace capscrew if insula-
tion is damaged in any way.
f.
Inspect capacitor (21) for cracked mounting strap or body. Check capacitor
electrical lead for cracked or broken insulation or broken wire strands at
connection to terminal.
g.
Inspect voltage regulator (29) for damaged terminals and terminal stud. Test
voltage regulator using commercial regulator tester.
h.
Test diode trio (5):
(1)
Set multimeter to X1 or diode
check range.
(2) Hold multimeter red lead
at test point A, black
lead at test point B. Note
multimeter indication,
then move black lead to
test point A, red lead to
test point B. Note multi-
meter indication. There
should be one high multi-
meter indication and one
low multimeter indication.
(3) Repeat step (2) above at test points A and C.
(4) Repeat step (2) above at test points A and D.
(5) If both multimeter indications in step (2), (3), or (4) above are the
same, replace diode trio (5).
