MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
10. LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE (Cont).
Step 10. (Cont).
a. If clearance exceeds 0.005 inch, new main bearing liners must be
installed (page 4-16).
b. If clearance is 0.0016 to 0.005 inch, put clean OE/HDO 30 lubri-
cating oil on threads and under heads of cap screws.
Install main bearing cap and secure using two capscrews and
washers. Tighten to 195 to 215 lb-ft.
Repeat step 10 above for remaining six main bearing caps. If all
clearances are 0.0016 to 0.005 inch, camshaft bushings are worn.
Replace camshaft bushings (page 4-54).
11. DIAL INDICATOR HAND DOES NOT INDICATE 0.053 INCH WHEN PERFORMING VALVE TIMING
CHECK (PAGE 3-8)
Step 1.
Perform top dead center check (page 3-4).
a. If mid-point between two lines scribed on crankshaft pulley does
not aline with TDC (top dead center) mark on crankshaft pulley,
replace crankshaft pulley (page 3-51).
b. If mid-point between two lines scribed on crankshaft pulley does
aline with TDC (top dead center) mark on crankshaft pulley, go
to step 2 below.
Step 2. Check valve tappet clearance (page 3-6).
a. If intake valve cold setting tappet clearance is not 0.015 inch
or if exhaust valve cold setting tappet clearance is not 0.025
inch, adjust (page 3-6). If intake valve hot setting tappet
clearance is not 0.015 inch or if exhaust valve hot setting tap-
pet clearance is not 0.020 inch, adjust (page 3-6).
b. If valve tappet clearances are okay, go to step 3 below.
Step 3. Remove valve covers (page 3-60).
Remove rocker arm assemblies and push rods (page 3-62).
Check push rods for bent condition by rolling
face. Push rod should roll smoothly.
a. If push rods are bent, replace and install
b.
If push rods are okay, go to step 4 below.
