NOTE
Counterweight removal is necessary only for air transport by C-130 aircraft.
MP (multi-purpose) bucket must be installed on loader arm.
To reduce rear axle load, 898 lb (407 kg) of counterweights are removed from machine
and 250 lb (113 kg) of counterweights are relocated on machine.
Rear Counterweight Removal

WARNING
Use extreme caution when handling heavy parts. Provide adequate support and use
assistance during procedure. Ensure lifting device used is in good condition and of
suitable load capacity. Keep clear of heavy parts supported only by lifting device. Failure to
follow this warning may cause injury or death to personnel.
NOTE
Each rear counterweight weighs approximately 250 lb (113 kg).
Rear counterweights are designed with lift bar incorporated.
One rear counterweight is relocated to bracket on MP bucket. Second rear counterweight
is secured to shipping pallet with exhaust pipe and cab.
1. Attach nylon sling to one counterweight (Figure 7, Item 3) and to suitable lifting device.
WARNING
Use extreme caution when loosening counterweight to ensure fingers are not caught
between counterweight and machine or bucket mounting bracket during removal,
alignment or installation to prevent injury to personnel.
2. Remove two bolts (Figure 7, Item 4), washers (Figure 7, Item 5) and counterweight (Figure 7, Item 3) from
machine.
NOTE
Steps 3 and 4 apply to counterweight to be mounted to MP bucket only. If removing
counterweight to be secured to pallet, skip to step 5.
