COUNTERWEIGHT REMOVAL CONTINUED
Side Counterweight Removal

1. Assemble counterweight removal tool (see procedures in this work package).
WARNING
Use extreme caution when handling heavy parts. Provide adequate support and use
assistance during procedure. Ensure lifting device used is in good condition and of
suitable load capacity. Keep clear of heavy parts supported only by lifting device. Failure to
follow this warning may cause injury or death to personnel.
NOTE
Each side counterweight weighs approximately 324 lb (147 kg).
Side counterweights have lateral hole to accommodate counterweight removal tool.
2. Slide counterweight removal tool (Figure 8, Item 6) through hole (Figure 8, Item 5) in side counterweight
(Figure 8, Item 1).
3. Install bracket link (Figure 8, Item 3), bolt (Figure 8, Item 2), two washers (Figure 8, Item 8) and nut (Figure 8,
Item 7) on other end of counterweight removal tool (Figure 8, Item 6).
4. Install pin (Figure 8, Item 4) through counterweight removal tool (Figure 8, Item 6) into hole next to large spring
loaded pin near bracket link (Figure 8, Item 3).
5. Install two nylon slings to two bracket links (Figure 8, Item 3) at ends of counterweight removal tool (Figure 8,
Item 6) and to appropriate lifting device.
WARNING
Use extreme caution when loosening counterweight to ensure fingers are not caught
between counterweight and machine during removal to prevent injury to personnel.
6. Remove two bolts (Figure 8, Item 10), washers (Figure 8, Item 9) and side counterweight (Figure 8, Item 1)
from machine.
7. Place side counterweight (Figure 8, Item 1) on shipping pallet.
8. Remove two nylon slings from two bracket links (Figure 8, Item 3) and lifting device.
