Turn the crankshaft until the “C” mark on thecrankshaft gear is in alignment with the “C”mark on the camshaft gear.NOTE: To keep the engine timing correct duringremoval and installation of the camshaft, put a markon the teeth of the fuel injection pump drive gear andidler gear at location (A). Put a mark on the teeth ofthe idler gear and camshaft gear at location (B). Theengine timing will be correct when the marks atlocations (A) and (B) are in alignment and the “C”marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears are inalignment.2. Remove bolts (1) that hold the camshaft gearto the camshaft. Remove the camshaft gear.3. Bend the locks away from bolts (2). Removebolts (2), the lock and thrust plate that hold thecamshaft in place.4. Install a 3/8”- 16 NC forged eyebolt in the endof the camshaft. Use the eyebolt and a crowfoot bar to carefully remove camshaft (3). Useextra care not to damage the camshaft bearingsas the camshaft is removed.5-137
