TimingGearCover(COnt).CLEANINGDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilatedarea. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don’t breathevapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and don’t smokewhen using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medicalattentionwith largewith water(1) Cleanimmediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flushamounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyesand get medical aid immediately.all parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry using clean cloths.(2) Remove all traces of gaskets (9 and 20) from cylinder block, timing gearcover (19), and gear cover (8) using clean cloth moistened with cleaningsolvent P-D-680.INSPECTION(1)( 2)( 3)( 4)( 5 )(6)Using a micrometer, measure outside diameter of idler gear shaft. Replaceif outside diameter is less than 1.7325 inches.Using a micrometer, measure thickness of idler gear thrust washer. Re-place if thickness is less than 0.057 inch.Using bore gage and micrometer, measure inside diameter of idler gear.Replace if inside diameter is more than 1.7375 inches.NOTEReplace an item if inspection indicates needInspect idler gear (23) for missing or brokenpitting.Inspect timing gear cover (19) for cracks andfor replacement.teeth, distortion, ordistortion.Inspect all remaining parts for cracks, dents, damage, distortion, orthread damage.4-70
