i. Timing Gear Cover (COnt) .
CLEANING
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.
Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilated
area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and dont breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and dont smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
attention

(2) Remove all traces of gaskets (9 and 20) from cylinder block, timing gear
cover (19), and gear cover (8) using clean cloth moistened with cleaning
solvent P-D-680.

Using a micrometer, measure outside diameter of idler gear shaft. Replace
if outside diameter is less than 1.7325 inches.
Using a micrometer, measure thickness of idler gear thrust washer. Re-
place if thickness is less than 0.057 inch.
Using bore gage and micrometer, measure inside diameter of idler gear.
Replace if inside diameter is more than 1.7375 inches.
NOTE
Replace an item if inspection indicates need
Inspect idler gear (23) for missing or broken
pitting.
Inspect timing gear cover (19) for cracks and
for replacement.
