4-4. FRONT AND REAR AXLES DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY MAINTENANCE (CONT)
a. Differential Carrier (Cont).
DISASSEMBLY (SHEET 4 OF 4)
NOTE
Perform steps (25) through (27) below only if inspection indicates cone
and rollers (20) and bearing (22) require replacement.
(25) Put pinion (23) in hydraulic press, cone
and rollers (20) side up. Put bearing
collar on cone and rollers then press
pinion (23) shaft from cone and rollers.
Discard cone and rollers.
NOTE
End of pinion (23) shaft is staked against
inner race of bearing (22). Be sure to
grind end of pinion shaft so that bearing
can be removed.
(26) Grind end of pinion (23) shaft where it is
staked against inner race of bearing (22).
(27) Put pinion (23) in hydraulic press, bearing (22) side up, and put collar
on bearing. Press pinion shaft from bearing. Discard bearing.
(28) If necessary, remove plug (24) from differential carrier (27).
(29) If necessary, remove nut (25) and thrust screw (26) from differential
carrier (27).
