FuelInjectionPump (Cont) .CLEANINGDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilatedarea. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don’t breathevapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and don’t smokewhen using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medicalattention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flushwith large amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyeswith water and get medical aid immediately.(1)Scrape gasket material from mating surfaces of timing gear cover, gearcover (8), plates (24 and 61), and housing (68) using putty knife. Removeresidue using clean cloth moistened with cleaning solvent P-D-680.Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Useonly with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment(goggles/shield, gloves, etc). Failure to do so could cause seriousinjury to eyes and possible blindness.If you hurt your eyes or if aforeign object is blown into your eyes, seek medical attentionimmediately.(2)(3)(4)(5)Clean housing (68) using clean cloth moistened with cleaning solventP-D-680. Clear housing (68) bores and dry using compressed air.Clean bearings (on camshaft) and roller tappets by iumersing in cleaningsolvent P-D-680 and slowly moving up and down. Dry using compressed air.Direct air stream across bearings and rollers to avoid spinning. Don’tspin bearings or rollers when drying; rotate slowly by hand to facilitatedrying. After drying bearings and rollers, lubricate using clean cali-brating fluid. Keep roller tappets and bearing/camshaft assembly in aclean area.Remove protective grease from all new parts using cleaning solventP-D-680. Dry using compressed air. After drying, lubricate using cleancalibrating fluid and keep in a clean area.Clean all other metal parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry usingclean cloths. Lubricate all moving parts using clean calibrating fluid,and keep in a clean area.3-148
