9. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (Cont).
Step 6. (Cont).
a. Replace a rocker arm shaft if outside diameter is less than
0.860 inch. Reassemble (page 3-69) and install rocker arm assem-
bly and valve covers (page 3-71).
NOTE
Be sure you reassemble rocker arm assemblies correctly as described on
page 3-69. Failure to do so will cause high oil consumption.
b. If rocker arm shafts are okay, go to step 7 below.
Step 7.
Remove cylinder head(s) (page 3-45).
Remove valves (page 3-74).
Check valve stem seals for wear or damage.
a. If valve stem seals are worn or damaged, replace (page 3-86).
b.
If valve stem seals are okay, go to step 8 below.
Step 8. Using bore gage and micrometer, measure inside diameter of valve
guides in three places as shown.
Diameter should be less than 0.4065 inch at any point.
