9. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (Cont).
Step 8. (Cont).
a. Replace valve guide (page 4-12) if inside diameter is more than
0.4065 inch at any point. Reinstall cylinder head and gasket
(page 3-48) and rocker arm assembly and valve cover (page 3-71).
b. If valve guides are okay, go to step 9 below.
Step 9.
Using micrometer, measure exhaust and intake valves stem diameter in
places as shown.
Exhaust valve stem diameter should be not less than 0.4008 inch and
stem tip diameter should be not less than 0.4018 inch.
Intake valve stem diameter should be not less than 0.4018 inch.
Step 10.
a. Replace a valve if measurements are not

b. If measurements are as specified above,
Remove oil pan (page 3-88).
Notify general support maintenance to check
for wear (page 4-51).
