Flowmeter Tests - Continued

(13)Oil must be at operating temperature. If oil is not at operating temperature:
(a) Run engine at full throttle.
(b) Close pressure valve of flowmeter until pressure gauge indicates 1,500 psi (103 bar).
(c) Continue to run engine at full throttle until temperature of oil is 125F (52C).
(14) Completely open pressure valve.
(15) Adjust engine speed until deluxe instrument panel (DIP) displays 2,200 rpm (TM 5-3805-292-10) and
read flow gauge.
(16) Write reading on line 1 of check sheet (Figure 36, page 35).
(17) Slowly close pressure valve on flowmeter until pressure gauge indicates 1,400 psi (97 bar).
(18) Read flow gauge and write reading on line 2 of check sheet (Figure 36, page 35).
(19) Slowly close pressure valve on flowmeter until pressure gauge indicates 1,800 psi (124 bar).
(20) Read flow gauge and write reading on line 3 of check sheet (Figure 36, page 35).
(21) Slowly close pressure valve on flowmeter until pressure gauge indicates 2,000 psi (138 bar).
(22) Read flow gauge and write reading on line 4 of check sheet (Figure 36, page 35).
(23) Open pressure valve completely.
(24) Decrease engine speed to low idle and stop engine (TM 5-3805-292-10).
b. Understanding Test Results
(1) If output minimum pressure at 2,200 rpm is less than 18 gpm (68 lpm), check for a restriction between
reservoir and gear pump.
(2) If output at minimum pressure at 2,200 rpm is greater than 18 gpm (68 lpm), there are no problems
between reservoir and gear pump. However, gear pump can be worn or damaged and still have good
flow at minimum pressure.
(3) Loss of output at 2,200 psi (152 bar) indicates that gear pump is worn or damaged. To determine effi-
ciency of gear pump, divide flow reading from line 4 by flow reading from line 1. This answer multiplied
by 100 percent is efficiency of gear pump. If efficiency of gear pump is less than 75 percent, repair or
(4) Disconnect flowmeter from machine.
