STEERING WHEEL TIME CHECK

WARNING
The steering wheel time check will cause wheel motion.
Before performing steering wheel time check, clear machine and area of all personnel.
Check visibility and adjust mirrors for best vision close to the machine. Fasten your
seatbelt securely whenever in the cab and operating the machine. Empty bucket of all
material. Park machine in an open area on level ground.
Failure to follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
1. Turn battery disconnect switch ON and start engine (TM 5-3805-298-10).
2. Move machine to a hard dry surface away from other machines and personnel.
3. Raise work tool from ground (TM 5-3805-298-10).
4. Engage parking brake and disengage service brakes (TM 5-3805-298-10).
5. Run engine at high idle (2,450 rpm) (TM 5-3805-298-10).
6. Turn the steering wheel to the left until left steering stop is reached (TM 5-3805-298-10).
7. Turn the steering wheel to the right until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
8. Turn the steering wheel to the left until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
9. Run engine at low idle (TM 5-3805-298-10).
10. Turn the steering wheel to the right until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
11. Turn the steering wheel to the left until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
12. Disengage parking brake (TM 5-3805-298-10).
13. Run engine at high idle (2,450 rpm) (TM 5-3805-298-10).
14. Turn the steering wheel to the right until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
15. Turn the steering wheel to the left until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
16. Run engine at low idle (TM 5-3805-298-10).
17. Turn the steering wheel to the right until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
18. Turn the steering wheel to the left until left steering stop is reached and record the time required
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
19. Stop the machine.
20. Lower work tool to the ground (TM 5-3805-298-10).
21. Engage parking brake and release service brake (TM 5-3805-298-10).
22. Turn ignition switch and battery disconnect switch to OFF position (TM 5-3805-298-10).
23. The normal cycle time from stop to stop in either direction in low idle is 3.5 to 4.0 seconds.
