STEERING WHEEL SLIP CHECK

WARNING
The steering wheel slip check will cause wheel motion.
Before performing steering wheel slip check, clear machine and area of all personnel.
Check visibility and adjust mirrors for best vision close to the machine. Fasten your
seatbelt securely whenever in the cab and operating the machine. Empty bucket of all
material. Park machine in an open area on level ground.
Failure to follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
1. Turn battery disconnect switch ON and start engine (TM 5-3805-298-10).
2. Move machine to a hard dry surface.
3. Raise work tool from ground (TM 5-3805-298-10).
4. Engage parking brake and disengage service brakes (TM 5-3805-298-10).
5. Run engine at low idle (TM 5-3805-298-10).
6. Make sure the steering is centered straight ahead on the machine (TM 5-3805-298-10).
7. Turn the steering wheel one revolution to the right (TM 5-3805-298-10).
8. Turn the steering wheel one revolution to the left (TM 5-3805-298-10).
9. Turn the steering wheel three revolutions to the right and note the time required for each revolution
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
10. Turn the steering wheel three revolutions to the left and note the time required for each revolution
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
11. Lower work tool to the ground (TM 5-3805-298-10).
12. Turn ignition switch and battery disconnect switch to OFF position (TM 5-3805-298-10).
13. Add the total time required for three revolutions to the right and three revolutions to the left.
14. If the total time is 6.0 seconds or more the slip is normal.
15. If the total time is less than 6.0 seconds the slip is excessive.
