INSPECTION
NOTE
Replace differential carrier bearing cups (page 4-221) if cones and
rollers (10) are replaced. Do not use an old bearing cup with a new cone
and rollers.
(1) Inspect cone and rollers (10) by rotating and checking that it turns
smoothly. Check rollers for flat areas, pitting, or scored, scratched,
chipped, or cracked races.
NOTE
Replace differential carrier pinion (23) (page 4-220) if ring gear (16)
is replaced. They are a matched set.
(2)
Inspect ring gear (16) for chipped, nicked, burred, or broken teeth.
NOTE
Replace all four gears (8) as a set if any one gear requires replace-
ment.
(3)
Inspect gears (8) for pitting, scoring, broken teeth, or damage or wear
to thrust surface.
NOTE
Replace parts as necessary.
(4)
Inspect cases (11 and 15) for pitting, scoring, or damage.
(5)
Inspect thrust washers (3, 6, and 7) for scoring, pitting, or damage. Re-
place all thrust washers if one requires replacement.
(6) Inspect remaining parts for cracks, dents, or damaged threads.
