Distanceshould be 0.36 to 0.39 inch.(c) Remove vernier caliper andmeasuring bar.NOTEIf camshaft projection measures 0.36to 0.39 inch, do the camshaft endplay measurement, step (20) below.If projection does not measure 0.36to 0.39 inch, go to step (d) below.(d) Remove end plate with camshaft, step(13) (page 3-142).(e) Press bearing cone from governor end of camshaft (page 3-150). If cam-shaft projection is less than 0.36 inch, add shim(s) (78); if projectionis more than 0.39 inch, remove shim(s) (78). Reinstall bearing cone ongovernor end of camshaft (page 3-151).(f) Install camshaft with end plate, steps (16) through (18) above.(g) Repeat steps (a) through (c) above to verify proper camshaft projection.(20) Measure camshaft end play:(a)(b)(c)ExertPush a wood block into feedpump bore to prevent camshaftrotation.Screw end play gage on driveend of camshaft, then removewood block.Install dial indicator on endplay gage.NOTEsteady pressure along camshaftcenter line in following two steps.Side pressure will give incorrectmeasurements.(d) Steadily pull and swivel end play gage to make sure bearings are seatedand set dial indicator to zero.3-161
