(b) Measure distance from housing
face to measuring bar using
vernier caliper. Distance
should be 0.36 to 0.39 inch.
(c) Remove vernier caliper and
measuring bar.
NOTE
If camshaft projection measures 0.36
to 0.39 inch, do the camshaft end
play measurement, step (20) below.
If projection does not measure 0.36
to 0.39 inch, go to step (d) below.
(d) Remove end plate with camshaft, step
(13) (page 3-142).
(e) Press bearing cone from governor end of camshaft (page 3-150). If cam-
shaft projection is less than 0.36 inch, add shim(s) (78); if projection
is more than 0.39 inch, remove shim(s) (78). Reinstall bearing cone on
governor end of camshaft (page 3-151).
(f) Install camshaft with end plate, steps (16) through (18) above.
(g) Repeat steps (a) through (c) above to verify proper camshaft projection.
(20) Measure camshaft end play:

Push a wood block into feed
pump bore to prevent camshaft
rotation.
Screw end play gage on drive
end of camshaft, then remove
wood block.
Install dial indicator on end
play gage.
NOTE
steady pressure along camshaft
center line in following two steps.
Side pressure will give incorrect
measurements.
(d) Steadily pull and swivel end play gage to make sure bearings are seated
and set dial indicator to zero.
