TM 5-3805-262-34CLEANING AND INSPECTIONDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilatedarea. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don’t breathevapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and don’t smokewhen using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medicalattentionwith largewith water(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)Cleanimmediately.If contact with skin or clothes is made, flushamounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyesand get medical aid immediately.pivot shaft using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry using clean cloths.Roll pivot shaft on flat surface to check for bent condition. Replacepivot shaft if it does not roll smoothly.Inspect pivot shaft for excessive wear. Use micrometer and measure pivotshaft diameter two, four, and seven inches from each end. Record measure-ments. Replace pivot shaft if diameter is less than 2.492 inches.Inspect pivot shaft for out-of-roundness. Measure pivot shaft diameter 90degrees from measurements in step (3) above. Replace pivot shaft if anymeasurement differs by more than 0.008 inch from measurement recorded instep (3) above.Inspect pivot shaft ends for cracked or chipped condition. Check pivotshaft for cracks, breaks, distortion, or damage. Replace pivot shaft ifnecessary.Use bore gage to measure bushing inside diameter at several places alongits length. Replace bushing if inside diameter is more than 2.506 inches.Check bushing lubrication holes for clogged condition. Inspect bushingsfor cracks, distortion, or damage. Replace bushings as necessary.3-775
