TM 5-3805-262-34CLEANING AND INSPECTIONDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilatedarea. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don’t breathevapors . Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and don-t smokewhen using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medicalattention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flushwithwith(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)large amounts of water.If contact with eyes is made, wash eyeswater and get medical aid immediately.Clean pivot shaft using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry using clean cloths.Roll pivot shaft on flat surface to check for bent condition. Replacepivot shaft if it does not roll smoothly.Inspect pivot shaft for excessive wear. Use micrometer and measure pivotshaft diameter one, three, and six inches from each end. Record measure-ments. Replace pivot shaft if diameter is less than 2.992 inches.Inspect pivot shaft for out-of-roundness. Measure pivot shaft diameter 90degrees from measurements in step (3) above. Replace pivot shaft if anymeasurement differs by more than 0.008 inch from measurement recorded instep (3) above.Inspect pivot shaft capscrew holes for wear or damage. Check pivot shaftfor cracks, breaks, distortion, or damage. Replace pivot shaft if neces-sary.Use bore gage to measure bushing inside diameter at several places alongits length. Replace bushing if inside diameter is more than 3.006 inches.Check bushing lubrication holes for clogged condition. Inspect bushingsfor cracks, distortion, or damage. Replace bushings if necessary.3-779
