WARNING
Diesel fuel is combustible and an irritant. Skin and eye protection is required. Ensure work
area is well ventilated.
Keep away from open flame and other ignition sources.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel.
1. Attach sling and lifting device to cylinder head.
WARNING
Use extreme caution when handling heavy parts. Provide adequate support during
procedure. Ensure any lifting device used is in good condition and of suitable load
capacity. Keep clear of heavy parts supported only by lifting device. Failure to follow this
warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
NOTE
Cylinder head assembly weighs 90 lb (41 kg).
2. Using lifting device, install new cylinder head gasket (Figure 19, Item 4) and cylinder head (Figure 19, Item 3)
on engine.
NOTE
Install head bolts as noted during removal.
3. Install 14 new cylinder head bolts (Figure 19, Item 1) and washers (Figure 19, Item 2) on cylinder head
(Figure 19, Item 3) and tighten cylinder head bolts hand-tight.
4. Remove lifting device and sling from cylinder head.
